Pramac HSG20P-30 Hybrid Power Generator with Battery Storage and Solar Modules
The Pramac HSG20P-30 combines a Stage V diesel generator, a lithium iron phosphate battery storage system, and fold-out solar modules in a compact hybrid system. This allows the power supply to be flexibly adapted to the actual power requirements. Small and constant loads are preferably supplied from the battery storage, while the diesel engine can be automatically switched on for higher energy demands or a low state of charge.
The system is particularly suitable for construction sites, inner-city work areas, events, temporary facilities, and operations with longer low-load phases. Compared to a conventional power generator, engine running times, fuel consumption, maintenance, and noise emissions can be significantly reduced.
Diesel generator, battery storage, and photovoltaics in one system
The integrated diesel generator provides a continuous output of 20 kVA or 16 kW. For short-term power requirements, an emergency power output of 22 kVA or 17.6 kW is available.
Together with the 24 kVA inverter and the battery storage, the hybrid package can temporarily deliver a maximum output of up to 44 kVA or 35.2 kW. This allows loads with high inrush currents or short-term load peaks to be supplied without having to permanently size the diesel engine for maximum power.
28.8 kWh LiFePO4 Battery Storage
The HSG20P-30 has six battery modules with a total nominal capacity of 28.8 kWh. The LiFePO4 technology used is characterized by high cycle stability, low self-discharge, and good thermal stability.
At low loads, the system can operate entirely on battery power. The diesel engine remains switched off during this time. This reduces noise and exhaust emissions and enables power supply during rest periods, in residential areas, or during night work, for example.
According to the manufacturer, the battery is designed for up to 6,000 charging cycles at 80 percent depth of discharge and 25 °C.
Integrated solar modules with 1,200 Wp
On the housing, there are three adjustable monocrystalline solar modules, each with 400 Wp. The total installed PV capacity is 1,200 Wp.
The solar modules can be oriented towards the sun and support the recharging of the battery storage directly at the site of use. This further reduces the operating time of the diesel engine. Since the modules are permanently integrated into the system, no additional footprint is required for a separate photovoltaic system.
The solar recharging primarily serves to support the system. For the complete supply of larger consumers, the combination of battery storage and diesel generator remains crucial.
Four operating modes for different applications
The control of the HSG20P-30 allows for a demand-oriented selection of different operating modes:
- Stand-by: Stand-by operation for automatic power supply
- Just Battery: Supply exclusively from the battery storage
- Eco: Optimized hybrid operation with the shortest possible engine running times
- Full: Combination of available energy sources for maximum performance
The DSE-M840-MKII hybrid controller monitors the diesel generator, battery storage, inverter, and photovoltaic modules. Operating states, performance data, and events are logged with date and time.
Perkins Stage V Diesel Engine
The internal combustion engine used is a water-cooled Perkins 404J-22G with four cylinders and a displacement of 2.22 liters. The engine meets exhaust emission standard Stage V and operates at a nominal speed of 1,500 rpm.
According to the manufacturer, fuel consumption is:
- approx. 3.96 l/h at 75 percent PRP load
- approx. 5.53 l/h at 100 percent PRP load
The integrated 80-liter fuel tank allows for a theoretical running time of about 20 hours at 75 percent utilization. In hybrid operation, the actual engine running time can be significantly lower, as low-load phases are covered by the battery storage.
Less fuel consumption and reduced engine running time
The manufacturer states savings of up to 60 percent in fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions for typical application profiles. Maintenance costs can also be significantly reduced due to shorter engine running times. The actual achievable values depend on the load profile, state of charge, solar radiation, and the selected operating mode.
In a sample construction site operation with nine operating hours and a load peak of 30 kW, the following values were determined compared to a conventional 45 kVA generator:
- Fuel savings: approx. 16.3 liters per day
- Saved engine running time: approx. 5 hours per day
- CO₂e reduction: approx. 51.4 kg per day
In an inner-city 24-hour operation with nocturnal lighting, up to 15 hours of engine running time per day were saved compared to a classic 20 kVA generator.
Connection options for construction sites and commercial use
The HSG20P-30 is equipped with several fused connections for various consumers:
- 1 × CEE 400 V / 63 A
- 1 × CEE 400 V / 32 A
- 1 × CEE 400 V / 16 A
- 1 × Schuko 230 V
- 1 × CEE 400 V / 32 A for external supply and grid charging
The 63 A socket is protected by a type B residual current device with 300 mA. The 16 A and 32 A three-phase sockets have a common RCD type B with 30 mA. The 230 V connection is protected by an RCBO with 30 mA.
Robust and soundproofed housing
The weatherproof housing is made of galvanized sheet steel and is designed for mobile use under demanding conditions. The sound insulation and the residential area muffler reduce noise emissions during diesel operation.
Large, lockable side doors facilitate maintenance and service work. The base frame consists of welded steel profiles and is equipped with coordinated vibration dampers.
According to the manufacturer, the sound pressure level is:
- 71 dB(A) at 1 meter distance
- 59 dB(A) at 7 meters distance
In pure battery operation, there is no engine noise.
