The LYS Power PowerLion 250-500 is a high-performance, containerised battery energy storage system (BESS) for professional applications. With a 250 kW rated power and a 522 kWh storage capacity, the system is suitable for construction sites, industrial use, temporary power supply, peak load shaving, and hybrid applications in conjunction with diesel generators, photovoltaic systems or the public grid.

The robust outdoor design combines a generously sized LFP battery storage system (lithium iron phosphate) with an integrated PCS, energy management and extensive communication options. This allows the PowerLion to be used flexibly as a standalone energy storage system or as part of a hybrid energy supply.

250 kW output and 522 kWh storage capacity

With a usable system capacity of 522 kWh and a rated output of 250 kW / 250 kVA, the PowerLion can also supply power to larger loads over extended periods. According to the manufacturer, an overload capacity of up to 275 kVA for less than three minutes is provided for short-term load peaks. The nominal voltage is 400 V AC and is adjustable within ±10 per cent.

This makes the storage system particularly suitable for applications where high power outputs are required, whilst at the same time the running times and fuel consumption of conventional power generators are to be reduced.

Ideal as a hybrid solution with a generator

One of the most important applications of the PowerLion 250-500 is its combination with a diesel generator. The system features a generator interface for generators in the power range of 100 to 500 kVA and supports, amongst other things, dry contact relays, Ethernet and RS485.

In a hybrid system, the battery storage unit can handle peak loads, supply consumers on its own during periods of low load, and ensure the generator is operated specifically at a more efficient operating point. Depending on the load profile, this can reduce operating hours, fuel consumption, emissions and maintenance requirements.

Intelligently combining the grid, photovoltaics and battery storage

In addition to a generator, the PowerLion can also be combined with the public electricity grid and photovoltaic systems. The system concept outlined in the manufacturer’s documentation links the battery, PCS, grid or generator, consumers, energy meter and EMS together. Communication can take place via Ethernet, RS485 and a 4G router.

Robust LFP battery technology

The PowerLion uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries. According to the manufacturer, the battery system is designed for more than 8,000 cycles at 100 per cent depth of discharge (DOD). The maximum system efficiency is stated as 90 per cent.

An integrated liquid cooling system helps maintain a consistent battery temperature, thereby ensuring stable operation even under demanding operating conditions.

Designed for outdoor use

According to the data sheet, the housing has an IP55 protection rating. The permissible temperature range is stated as –20 °C to +50 °C. The dimensions are approximately 2,700 × 2,300 × 2,400 mm, with a total weight of around 8.2 tonnes. According to the manufacturer, noise emissions are less than 65 dB.

This allows the PowerLion to be set up in a comparatively compact manner on construction sites, company premises or at temporary power supply points.
